ETCO Incorporated Announces the Launch of New Composite Material Wire Terminating Applicator

Press Release from ETCO Incorporated

ETCO Incorporated | April 8th, 2014

Manufacturer of custom precision stampings launches revolutionary new product that will increase quality of wire terminations while reducing costs for wire harness manufacturers.

ETCO Incorporated today announced the launch of its new EDGE-C Series of composite applicators. The new line of applicators joins a product line already known for rugged quality and durability. The EDGE-C series of applicators seeks to revolutionize the way wire processing is done by focusing on efficiency and other improvements over its metal-based cousins. In research and development for over 2 years, the composite applicator represents ETCO’s commitment to driving innovation in the wire termination industry while providing top value to its customers.

The EDGE-C series represents a leap in applicator design and function. The patent pending design of the applicator is focused on a lightweight uni-body construction. It is made from the strongest composite materials available. While it functions identically to heavier metal based applicators, the EDGE-C applicator costs nearly a fraction of the price of those types of applicators and can be manufactured quicker to reduce lead times for end customers. The long term ownership cost of the EDGE-C composite applicator is significantly less than metal applicator housings.

During ETCO applicator performance testing, the level of lubricity extended longer than with metal-based applicators. This was the case in repeated testing over a million cycles. The tolerances provided by the dimensions of the composite applicator allowed for a level of precision not seen with metal based applicators. These improvements in applicator technology amounts to what ETCO engineers believe will be a positive disruptive change in the applicator industry. ETCO applicator R&D engineer Cris Gravel states, “The EDGE-C applicator is the pinnacle in efficient, cost-effective, quality applicator design.” He continues, “Wire harness houses will appreciate the portability and the dramatically reduced rate of error in the functionality of the composite applicator.”

Manufacturers will get an in-person preview of the EDGE-C applicator at the Electrical Wire Processing Technology Expo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 14 th and 15th at ETCO booth# 1221. ETCO engineers will provide hands on demonstrations and walk-throughs of the EDGE-C applicator during the show and answer questions from visitors.
