Trelleborg’s Engineered Coated Fabrics Pass Crucial Medical Furniture Fire Standard BS7176: 2007

Press Release from Trelleborg Engineered Coated Fabrics

14.10.2020

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical is pleased to confirm that its latest engineered coated fabric development for the medical furniture segment has passed BS 7176: 2007. This standard is a critical requirement for healthcare seating in the UK, as it ensures that all conforming fabrics are suitably flame retardant for medical environments.

Technical Director, Richard Haxby, said: "This is a very important addition to our engineered coated fabrics range, as the UK regulations governing fire performance are very stringent for healthcare seating, and a high level of fire retardance is required. Many coated fabrics cannot meet these requirements as they melt in the test, failing to protect the foam underneath."

"This development, which falls in the Dartex Performance range of polyurethane-coated fabrics, will be a significant asset for medical seating and furniture manufacturers who are looking to sell into the UK market."

BS 7176: 2007 is a composite test to evaluate the fire performance of the fabric in conjunction with combustion modified polyurethane foam.
